A Leader Communicates Effectively: Learn to Listen!

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

There is more to effective
communications than just
being able to express
yourself verbally. You must
be willing and able to listen
to others! Learning to listen
is more than half the
battle. Listening is the way
you learn what is going on
and how it affects people.
Usually, when there is a
problem in an organization,
it’s because the
leader hasn’t
listened to what is going on
until it’s too late and
the situation has occurred.
There are two things you
can do to grow your

Because, yes, I will have
completely forgotten your
name. And it’s not
just a bad memory
that’s to blame here
(although, of course, my
memory sucks, too) -
I’m convinced
it’s because I am a
terrible listener, and
because I suffer
intermittent encoding

Communication Skills and the Eight Active Listening Secrets

Monday, May 26th, 2008

“I like to listen. I have
learned a great deal from
listening carefully. Most
people never listen.” Ernest
Hemingway If everyone
would just develop this one
communication skill, most
communication problems
would disappear. If you are
honest with yourself, the
last time you got into a
misunderstanding with
someone, it was because
you weren’t really
listening to what they said.
Active listening is a
communication skill that is
easy to learn and valuable
in all areas of life.
Remember, you
can’t learn
something new while you
are talking - only when you
listen can you learn. Here
are some pointers to
becoming an active
listener: Communication
